President Departs for Mozambique, Swartz Acting

His Excellency the President, Lt. Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama departed this morning (21/07/11)  for Maputo, where he will begin a three Day State Visit to Mozambique at the invitation of his Mozambican counterpart, H.E. President Armando Guebuza.

During the visit the two Presidents will hold official talks on issues of bilateral cooperation and common concern.

The President is being accompanied on the visit by the Minister of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources, the Hon. Ponatshego Kedikilwe, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Hon. Phandu Skelemani, and the Member of Parliament for Boteti North, the Hon. Slumber Tshogwane as well as other senior Government officials.

While the President is away, the Minister of Infrastructure, Science and Technology, the Hon. Johnny Swartz will be serving as Acting President.

This is due to H.H. the Vice President, Lt. Gen. Mompati Merafhe, being on medical leave.

While in Maputo, His Excellency is also scheduled to lay a wreath at the Mozambican Heroes Monument, pay a courtesy call on the Speaker of the National Assembly and receive a symbolic key to the City Maputo during a visit  to the city council. 

The President is also expected to visit the Maputo Port and the Malota Port Industrial Complex, the Mozambique National Agricultural Research Institute, and the Lingamo Oceanic Terminal of PetroMAc.
