Minister Motsumi addresses Public Servants in Sowa; Notes pr...

The Minister of Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, the Hon. Lesego Motsumi, met with civil servants in Sowa this afternoon as part of her ongoing outreach to Government Workers on the implications of the new Public Service Act (Public Service Act No. 30 of 2008), which came into effect in May.

During the meeting Minister Motsumi acknowledged that she was aware of enquiries and concerns regarding a provision in the Act with respect to payment of salaries based on a 22 day month, rather than the previous 20 days, following the Act's commencement.
She explained that because of the new provisions financial implication, which had not originally been budgeted for, a process had to be followed in order to secure the funds to pay according to the revised formula.

She further noted that she had recently submitted a proposal to Cabinet that had been accepted and which is now being worked on.

She further observed that it was now anticipated that the payments will start from October, and be retroactively effective from May 1, 2010.
