Message of Condolences

His Excellency the President of the Republic of Botswana, Lieutenant General Seretse Khama Ian Khama, has conveyed a message of condolence to the people of Poland following a tragic plane crash that claimed the lives of President Lech Kaczynski, his wife, including senior Polish Government officials on 10th April 2010. The Presidential delegation was travelling to Russia to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the Russian Massacre of Polish prisoners of War in the village of Katyn.

In a message sent to the Leader of the Lower House of Parliament, Honourable Bronislaw Komorowski, President Khama said,  “I have learnt with great shock and profound sadness of the untimely death of President Lech Kaczynski, his wife and senior Polish Government officials following a tragic plane crash near the city of Smolensk, Russia on 10th April 2010.

President Kaczynski shall be remembered for his inspirational leadership in the promotion of peace and democracy, not only within Poland, but also Eastern Europe as a whole.

On behalf of the Government and people of Botswana and indeed on my own behalf, I wish to express to you and to the entire Nation of Poland, particularly the bereaved families, our heartfelt condolences. Please accept, Your Excellency, the assurances of my highest consideration and esteem”.
