1. The 20th Session of the Botswana/Namibia Joint Commission for Defence and Security was held at Gaborone, Botswana, from the 20th - 24th September, 2010.

2. The delegation of the Republic of Botswana was led by Hon. Lesego E. Motsumi, MP, Acting Minister of Defence, Justice and Security and included Hon. Peter L. Siele, MP, Minister of Labour and Home Affairs, and senior government officials.

3. The delegation of the Republic of Namibia was led by Hon. Rosalia Nghidinwa, MP, Minister of Home Affairs and Immigration and included Hon. Lempy Lucas, MP, Deputy Minister of Defence, and senior government officials.

4. The Commission reviewed the implementation of the resolutions of the last meeting which was held in Swakopmund, Namibia, from the 12th - 14th August, 2009. In this regard, the Commission expressed satisfaction with the level of cooperation between the two sister countries, especially in the areas of Defence, Safety and Security and agreed to nurture these cordial relations for continued peace and stability in the two countries.

5. The Commission expressed satisfaction with the low levels of incidences of cross-border crimes such as stock theft and drug offences during the period under review. The Commission, however, noted that the prevalence of transnational organised crimes, such as drugs and human trafficking, continue to pose a threat to both countries and the region. To this end, the Commission re-affirmed its continued commitment to combating these criminal activities.

6. The Commission commended the people and the Governments of the Republic of Botswana and the Republic of Namibia for having held peaceful and democratic elections in 2009.

7. The Commission expressed concern about the continued political crisis in Madagascar and the unstable political situations in Somalia, Sudan and the eastern part of the DRC.  On Zimbabwe, the Commission noted progress made in the implementation of the Global Political Agreement and urged the parties to resolve outstanding matters of the Agreement.

8. The Commission commended the Republic of Angola and the Republic of South Africa for successfully hosting the Africa Cup of Nations and 2010 FIFA World Cup Tournament respectively. The Commission noted with satisfaction the capacity of African countries to host major events.

9. The Namibian delegation extended an invitation to the Botswana delegation to attend the 21st Session of Namibia/ Botswana Joint Commission for Defence and Security, on a date and venue to be communicated.

10. The Botswana delegation accepted the invitation to attend the 21st Session of the Namibia/Botswana Joint Commission meeting to be held in the Republic of Namibia next year on a date and venue to be decided.
