A 53 year old man appeared before Francistown Magistrate Court charged with one count of Corruption by Public Official contrary to Section 24 (1) as read with Section 36 of the Corruption and Economic Crime Act (Cap 08:05), Laws of Botswana.
DCEC Investigations
Investigations conducted by the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC) revealed that on or about the 20th day of March 2012 at Francistown in the Francistown Administrative District of the Republic of Botswana, Timothy Nthobatsang, being employed in Public Service as a Police Officer for the Francistown Police Station Diamond and Narcotics Squad, corruptly solicited and received for himself the sum of P500.00 (Five Hundred Pula) from Sampson Mabetho as an inducement to stop the investigations which had been initiated against the said Sampson Mabetho and his wife Fikile Samuel.
Next Mention in Court
The accused person was arraigned on the 30th May 2013 and is now awaiting the next mention in court on the 25th July 2013 to set trial dates. Ms. Itumeleng Makoba of DPP appeared for the state while Nthobatsang was represented by an attorney from K. K. Sechele Attorneys.
