Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC)
The media is invited to a press conference to be held on the 2nd August 2013 at Gaborone Sun from 0830hrs to 1000hrs. The purpose of this event will be to share with the media and the region at large progress made since the launch of the Commonwealth Africa Anti-Corruption Centre, current state of affairs at the Centre and future prospects on the operations of the Centre. The Commonwealth Africa Anti-Corruption Centre (CAACC) was launched in Gaborone on the 25th February 2013 to deal with among other things, spearheading training on corruption related matters to member states and to commission research and policy papers that will provide highly relevant information to Commonwealth Africa and the wider donor community. The Centre was also mandated to enhance information sharing and smooth interactions through coordinated engagements by member states following the establishment of the Association of Anti-Corruption Agencies in Commonwealth Africa (AACACA) in May 2011. Since its launch, some strides have been achieved and an expert from the Commonwealth Secretariat in London, United Kingdom, Dr. Roger Koranteng has been seconded to the Centre in Gaborone to oversee the operationalization of the Centre.
