One Count of Corruption by Public Officer
A 34 year old man appeared before Francistown Regional Magistrate Court charged with one count of Corruption by Public Officer contrary to Section 24 (1) as read with Section 36 of the Corruption and Economic Crime Act (Cap 08:05), Laws of Botswana.
DCEC Investigations
Investigations conducted by the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC) revealed that on diverse occasions between June 2011 and December 2012, exact dates unknown to the prosecution, at Francistown, being employed in Public Service as a Switchboard Operator at Immigration office corruptly accepted P700 cash from Uchizi Kawango, again on August 2011 Othusitswe Maikgadiso accepted P400 cash from Farai Pardon Makunya, for his benefits so that he would make a waiver and extend Uchizi Kawanga’s days of stay in Botswana and process a non citizen travelling documents for Farai Pardon Makuyana as well as extending days of staying in Botswana in his passport.
The accused person was arraigned on the 29th August 2013. Reuben Sebetela of Attoney General Chambers appeared for the state while Othusitswe Maikgadiso represented himself.
