One count of corruption of obtaining by false pretences
A 43 year old unemployed man Olebetswe Balebi of Sefoke ward in Tlokweng was arraigned before South Regional Magistrate Court on the 1st of August 2013 charged with one count of corruption of obtaining by false pretences contrary to section 308 of the Penal Code, (cap 08;01), Laws of Botswana.
DCEC Investigations
Investigations conducted by the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC) revealed that the accused person, Olebetswe Balebi on or about 13th of April 2012 , in the Gaborone Administrative District of the Republic of Botswana, with the intention to defraud, obtained the sum of P3 200.00 ( Three thousand Two Hundred Pula) from Patrick Kgomotso Gabakgore by falsely pretending that there are plots earmarked for repossession at the Department of Surveys and Mapping and in order for Patrick Kgomotso Gabakgore to stand a chance to be allocated same, he should participate in a tender, yet at all material times the accused person knew in fact and in truth that there was no such tender as well as plots earmarked for repossession at the Department of Surveys and Mapping.
Plea and the next mention in court
The accused person pleaded not guilty and he will appear again before court on the 10th September 2013.Balebi represented himself while Mr Gopolang Tlhabologang of DPP appeared for the state
