One count of corruption in respect of an official transaction
Two men appeared before Village Magistrate Court charged with one count of corruption in respect of an official transaction contrary to section 25 (2) as read with Section 36 of the Corruption and Economic Crime Act (Cap 08:05).
DCEC Investigations
Investigations conducted by the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC) revealed that on the 8th July 2011 at or near Central Police Station in Gaborone, in the Gaborone Administrative District of the Republic of Botswana, Katso Poese mooketsi aged 23 years, running combi business, and one Tshepo Ledikile aged 31, a combi driver, corruptly gave a valuable consideration of P200.00 (Two Hundred Pula) to constable Khuduga Ditshupo, a police officer, as an inducement to destroy the docket of a case so that charges will not be laid against Tshepo Ledikile who had been charged for failure to obey traffic lights.
Second Appearance in court
The accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charge and they will appear again in court on the 25th April 2012 when the trial continues.
