Man charged with three counts of Forgery
A 32 year old Senior Supplies Assistant appeared before Mahalapye Magistrate Court on the 19th January 2012 charged with three counts of Forgery contrary to section 341 (d) (1) as read with section 344 of the Penal Code Laws of Botswana Chapter 08:01.
DCEC Investigations
Investigations conducted by the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC) revealed that the accused person Goitsemodimo Pony Modiakgotla on three different occasions at Sefhare in the Mahalaye Administrative District of the Republic of Botswana, forged the signatures and printed the names of Mr Meshack TK, Mr C Palayiwa and Mr O Modongo on 3 separate Government Purchase Orders (GPO) purporting that the said persons signed and authorized the purchases. These GPO’s were then presented to Section World (Pty) Ltd at Mahalapye, thereby making the said company to believe that they were lawfully authorized and they supplied the goods described on them.
Offence Charges
The accused was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment on each count wholly suspended for three years on condition that she does not commit a similar offence. The accused was further given 30 days right of appeal to the high court. Modiakgotla was represented by Mr KK Sechele while Mr Oaitse appeared for the state.
