Three counts of obtaining by false pretence
A woman of 31 years of age appeared before Kanye Magistrate Court charged with three counts of obtaining by false pretence contrary to section 308 of the Penal Code (Cap 08:01) Laws of Botswana.
DCEC Investigations
Investigations conducted by the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC) revealed that the accused person Gaone Sechele while employed by the Ngwaketse Land Board as an Accounts Assistant, on three different occasions between 2007 and 2008 in Kanye and Moshupa in the Southern Administrative District of the Republic of Botswana with intent to defraud, obtained cash totaling P55 700 (Fifty Five Thousand Seven Hundred Pula) from three different people claiming that one was buying a ranch from Ngwaketse Land Board (P22 200), the other paying surveying fees for a ranch that had been repossessed by the Ngwaketse Land Board (P3500), and on the third occasion claiming to be an agent assisting one Ephraim Mokotedi in the purchase of a farm (P30 000) when in actual fact the accused knew such transactions to be false and non-existent.
Plea and Next Mention in Court
A plea was reserved for the next appearance on the 21st August 2012. Sechele was represented by Tengo Rubadira of Tengo Rubadira and Associates while Mr Jabu Oteng of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) appeared for the state.
