One count of fraud and breach of trust by Public Officers
Five people aged between 58 and 35 years old appeared before Gaborone Regional Magistrate Court charged with one count of Fraud and Breach of trust by Public Officers contrary to Section 129 of the Penal Code(Cap 08:05), Laws of Botswana.
DCEC Investigations
Investigations conducted by the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC) revealed that the accused persons, Maria Margret John, Florence Malepa, Hilda Nthaga, Pelonomi Mphitlhang and Maria Joyce Kegasitswe, on or about 4th day of July 2009 at Mahalapye, whilst in the employ of the Department of Buildings and Engineering Services (DBES) as supplier officers, acting together and in concert during a Public Auction of public goods at the (DBES) depot, committed breach of trust affecting the public, by setting aside lots 367 to 402 and making a false representation to the members of the public to the effect that the said Lots were not for sale, whereas in fact and in truth such representation was false, and later auctioned the goods marked by the said lots amongst themselves.
Next mention in court
The accused persons were arraigned on the 30th August 2013, they are to appear in court on the 10th October 2013. Mr. Benlida Oaitse of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions appeared for the state while Salbany appeared for Maria Margret John and Tema appeared for other four accused persons.
