The United Nations International Anti-corruption Day
DCEC to annualy host United Nations International Anti-Corruptions Day
The 9th of December has been declared the United Nations International Anti-Corruption day. This came about following the 31st October 2003 General Assembly that adopted the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC).The Convention entered into force in December 2005 and member states that have ratified the convention have been commemorating this day to raise awareness on corruption and on the role of the Convention in combating and preventing it. The Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC) will this year (2011) on the 9th of December lead the public in commemorating this important day. This follows the ratification of the protocol by Botswana in July this year. The event will start with marching from Main Mall in Gaborone (opposite Central Police Station by the parking lot) to the DCEC Headquarters (Plot 1212 Molosiwa Road, Old Lobatse Industrial near Gaborone Delta, BHC and Old Council Abattoirs). The March starts at 0645hrs and there will be speeches and entertainment at the DCEC to mark this day. The Media as a key stakeholder in the fight against corruption will be covering the proceedings of this day and to publicize it.
