Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC)
DCEC Mandate

Nobody is immuned from the investigations of the DCEC. The directorate investigates all cases of alleged corruption without fear or favour and corrupt practices that are detected and effectively dealt with in accordance with the CEC Act.

We do not target peoples political or official posts, we target wrong doing. The DCEC views people as people, irrespective of who they are. Corruption is bad in totality. Our Corruption and Economic Crime Act clearly gives us the mandate to bring to book all law breakers. Having said that, yes the DCEC has brought politicians and top civil servants to book.

If an officer carries out his duties and a person stands in his way by, for example, denying him access into premises, refusing with documented information that may be contained in files or stored in a computer or making assaults threats by so doing hindering the officer from performing his duties, an offence is committed. If found guilty, the person may be liable on conviction to imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years or P10 000.00 or to both.

Since its inception the DCEC has achieved:

·         Increment in manpower

·         Opening of Corruption Prevention (CP) and Public Education (PE) branches in the Francistown regional office

·         Expansion in Maun

·         Country wide public education programs to a broad spectrum of clientele

·         Over 70% conviction rate, which Is a deterrent to the potentially corrupt
