Botswana Police would like to appeal to the public to desist from driving motor vehicles when they are not licensed to do so. The appeal follows increasing number of people arrested for driving without a driver’s licenses. A total of 988 people were arrested for driving without driving licenses throughout the country last week.
The Police South Central Division that includes Gaborone and the periphery registered the highest number of 615 cases followed by the Northern Division with 336 and the Southern with 37 cases. Police records indicate that the culprits were mainly youth.
Some of the arrested were people who have bought vehicles but do not have driver’s licences or were in the processes of acquiring them. Other cases involved young people who were allowed to drive by their parents or guardians.
Unlicensed drivers pose a great danger on the roads, as they have been involved in accidents sometimes resulting in loss of lives.
