Ramatlabama crime prevention cluster committee has been urged to work hand in hand with the police to fight crime and protect property.
The Paramount chief of Barolong Kgosi Lotlamoreng II made a call when he officially opened one day cluster orientation workshop in Ramatlabama recently. The Paramount Chief said for the police to work effectively and efficiently they need the support of the community they police. He urged the cluster committee to be committed in combating crime as they are the ones who relate well with the community.
The workshop was conducted with the aim of promoting effective communication and good relationship between cluster committee members and community, the police and other law enforcement agencies to reduce incidents of crime.
Commenting on cross-border crime, Captain Motlalekhumo Leepile of South African Police Service said stock theft and motor vehicle theft is still a concern to both countries. He said stolen stock and vehicles are usually transported illegally through the border between the two countries. He said it is essential for the two countries to meet frequently to come up with strategies of eliminating cross border crime.
He encouraged the participants to educate the community about cross border crimes such as illegal border crossing and stock theft. He urged the community to desist from buying stolen property as the practice provides market for stolen goods.
The workshop was attended by cluster leaders from the 16 villages that surround Ramatlabama.
