Three die during President Day holidays
02/08/10

The Botswana Police has recorded a total of 190 road accidents in which three people lost their lives during the President’s Day holidays compared to six lives lost in 204 road accidents recorded during the same period last year.

In one of the accidents a 46 year old man died after the motor vehicle he was driving collided with another vehicle coming from the opposite direction along Gaborone/Thamaga road. A 57 years old woman also died after the vehicle she was travelling in collided with an oncoming vehicle.

Meanwhile, a seven year old girl died after she was knocked by a motor vehicle while crossing the road at Otse village.

The police therefore urge motorists to exercise patience and abide by the road traffic rules and regulations to avoid accidents especially during the holidays where there is a massive movement of people and traffic.

Still on the President’s Day holidays, the police removed 2 568 cattle from the highways and local roads as compared to 1 471 removed during the same period last year. Cattle owners are therefore urged to look after their cattle to prevent road accidents caused by stray animals along the roads.
