Safety tips for the business community
There are various crimes that affect businesses such as theft, robbery, break-ins and fraud. Members of the business community are encouraged to do the following to protect their businesses:
· Deposit business money at banks
· Avoid keeping business money at residential areas
· It is advisable to have devices (fraud detectors) to check if the money (bank notes) presented are genuine
· Vet potential employees
· Install security devices(e.g., alarms and Circular Circuit Televisions) in the business
· Hire security guards to take care of the business
· Verify the ownership of the debit card (or any card) before using it for payment. The buyer may be asked for additional documents such as National Identity Card.
· Report suspicious people at the business premise to the police (emergency number:999)
· Engage security companies when transporting cash to the bank or any place
· Decide whether to accept cheques or not. If accepted, provide conditions that will make it difficult for criminals to cheat businesses using false cheques
· Form or join business community policing committee that prevents crime in the business setting
