Ongoing police operations in Gaborone and surrounding areas have led to the arrest of a number of suspects for different criminal offences during the past week from 17 to 24/7/11. Some of the arrested suspects have been linked to cases previously reported at some police stations.
The suspects were arrested for among others, armed robbery, house breaking and possession of suspected stolen property. Others were arrested for harbouring illegal immigrants, employing non-citizen without work permits, violation of Trade Act, Liquor Act and for trading without traders’ licenses.
In one of the cases the police arrested a 23-year-old Zimbabwean of Extension 27 in Gaborone after being found in possession of a lap top, which he failed to account for. The police also arrested two Batswana who were wanted by the Central Police Station for house breaking and theft case.
Still in the past week the police arrested 37-year-old Zimbabwean women for possession of quantities of tobacco at her house in Oodi. The woman was found in possession of about 180 cartons of different cigarettes following a police search at a house in Phakalane. The cigarettes are suspected to have been smuggled into the country.
