Police have recorded 225 traffic cases in a three-day operation held in Maun recently.
The operation dubbed Sobriety Checkpoint and Saturation Patrol was manned by officers from different police stations and units in the northern side of the country.
Of all the recorded cases, 119 were of motorists driving vehicles with defects, 32 for drunken driving, while the rest were for various other traffic offences.
A total amount of P23 490 was collected as admission of guilty fines from 136 of the charged offenders. Police urge motorists to desist from drinking and driving as this has been found to be one of the leading causes of accidents on the roads.
The operation was held under the theme; “Helping the Community to Make the Right Choice by Not Driving after Drinking Alcohol or Using Drugs”.
