The Botswana Police Service has donated P10 000 to St. John’s Holy Church of God in Jackalas NO.1.
The money is to be used to complete a new church which is still under construction. The new church will replace an old dilapidated one which members are currently using for their worship services. The donation was officially handed over to the church recently by the Commissioner of Police, Mr Thebeyame Tsimako.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony, Mr Tsimako said that the donation is one way in which Botswana Police is forging partnerships with the community. He said that such partnerships have proved to be effective in helping the police to fight crime.
He further asked the church to encourage parents to talk to their children against engaging in self-destructive behaviors such as driving under the influence of alcohol. He added that failure by parents to talk to their children will result in more young people losing their lives to road accidents and engaging in crime.
For his part the St. John’s Holy Church of God Bishop Bachidzi Maphungo thanked the police for the gesture and asked other organizations to do likewise in helping the communities that they serve in. Bishop Maphungo pledged to support the police in their crime prevention initiatives in the village.
The handover ceremony was also attended by the village Chief, Kgosi Tapson Jackalas. The donated funds were raised through a sponsored walk which police officers participated in early this year.
