The Police have arrested a number of suspects for various offences following a special operation dubbed “Operation Life Saver” conducted in Francistown, and the surrounding areas from 28/10/11 to 30/10/11.
During the Operation the Police stopped, questioned and searched a total of 3411 people for general crime at Donga, Orapa, Tati Siding and Bisoli and charged 425 of them with various offences. A total of 5765 motorists were also stopped, questioned and searched for various offences and 157 motor vehicles were impounded for further investigations
Of the 957 drivers tested for alcohol during the Operation, 80 exceeded the limit and charged for drunken driving while 203 of them were below the limit.
High way patrol teams that also operated along the A1 road arrested a total of 564 motorists and charged 397 drivers for speeding, four (4) for drunken driving, two (2) for careless driving and eleven (11) for driving without drivers licences.
The police would like to thank members of the public who took part in whatever way possible to make the operation a success and appeal for their further assistance in similar operations that would be conducted in future.
