The police have recorded ten (10) death incidents on the New Year’s Eve from 31st December 2011 to 1st January 2012. Of the 10 death incidents five (5) people died in road traffic accidents, one committed suicide, one person was murdered, while three (3) died from unknown causes.
In one incident that occurred on the 31/12/11 at Pandamatenga in the Chobe district, a 22 year-old female was fighting with his boyfriend near the road was hit by oncoming motor vehicle as she tried to cross the road.
In yet another murder incident, on the 01/01/12 at Tlokweng, a 17 year-old boy was assaulted and stabbed with a sharp instrument at a party and later passed away at the hospital.
Another death incident occurred on the 01/01/12 at Bobonong village where a 94 year-old man committed suicide by hanging from the rafter of his house.
Meanwhile the police recorded a total of 24 armed robberies, 23 break-ins and 17 rape incidents during the New Year’s Eve throughout the country. Most of the robbery incidents occurred when victims were at entertainment places or going to their homes.
