Laptop thieves arrested
06/07/10

Police in Gaborone have arrested four Batswana men aged between 23 and 37 years for being in possession of 18 laptops suspected to be stolen.

The suspects are alleged to be in the habit of stealing household goods, especially electrical appliances and selling them at a cheaper price to individuals. Their arrest followed a number of police operations carried in Gaborone and its periphery.

One of the arrested suspects claimed that he bought the laptop from a certain man, who was also later arrested. The public however, advised to desist from buying suspected stolen goods. They asked to report to the police any information that could lead to the arrest of perpetrators.

During the first week of January this year, the police recorded 61 laptops as stolen with most of them (49) stolen in the South Central Division (that stretches from Ramotswa to Serowe). The arrest and recovery of the 18 laptops is a breakthrough that may lead to more recoveries of laptops.

Police operations have also led to the arrest of three suspects of the Armed Robbery case that occurred at the Oriental Plaza in Gaborone. The case that resulted in the theft of P30, 000 was reported at the Broadhurst Police Station.

Meanwhile strengthened patrols by the Ramatlabama police along the Botswana and South Africa border led to the recovery of 26 cigarettes bales, 22 loose cigarettes being Remington Gold and Deby tyres. The suspects ran away and crossed into South Africa.
