Francistown Police Walk to Raise Funds for a Church
16/03/11

Members of the Botswana Police in Francistown recently held a sponsored walk aimed at raising funds for the construction of a church in Jackalas No.1.

Officiating at the event the Botswana Police Deputy Director of Departmental Management System, Assistant Commissioner Moore Gondo said that they decided to help the Jackalas No.1 Saint John’s Holy Church after learning that the congregation was using a small and unsuitable mud hut as their place of worship.

Mr Gondo added that the Botswana Police’s gesture was also in recognition of the church community’s contribution to the development of this country through the years.

He said that the church community has over the years contributed greatly to among other things Botswana’s health and education and cited institutions such as Kanye Seventh Day Adventist Hospital and Mater Spei College in Francistown as examples.

Assistant Commissioner Gondo also expressed concern at the high involvement of youth in criminal activities and urged the church to help the Botswana Police in this regard by instilling good morals in young people.

In his remarks Bishop Bachidzi Maphungo of Saint John Holy Church thanked the police for listening to their plea for help. He went on to pledge his church’s support in crime prevention in Jackalas No.1.
