Francistown Police Bless a Needy Man With a House
07/12/10
Members of the Botswana Police Service in Francistown have donated a house, clothes, bedding, kitchenware and other gifts to a needy elderly man in the city. The two bed roomed house that cost over P68 000 was constructed through donations from members of the police and help from the Francistown Police Station’s Occupational Health, Chaplaincy and Social Welfare Committee. Speaking at the handing over ceremony of the house recently the Commissioner of Police Mr Thebeyame Tsimako said that the recipient of the donation, Steven Lekoma, was identified after consultations with the Francistown City Council Social Welfare Department. Mr Tsimako commended Francistown Police for the gesture saying such an effort will win them the confidence of the public they serve thus making it easier for them to engage such people in fighting crime in the city. He further said that their actions show that they are also committed to this country’s Vision 2016 pillar of a Compassionate and Caring Nation. The Commissioner further stated that members of the Botswana Police have extended a similar gesture to the needy in Gaborone, Kanye, Letlhakane, Lobatse, Tlokweng and Mmadinare. He also said that a sports and social responsibility policy is at an advanced stage of development. He said the policy will help in the planning and coordination of social efforts by the police.
