The Deputy Commissioner of Police responsible for operations, Mr Keabetswe Makgophe has urged police officers to be committed in ensuring achievement of crime reduction goals.
Addressing some senior police officers at a performance review workshop in Gaborone recently, Mr Makgophe expressed his worry at the increasing rate of robberies, break-ins and road accidents.
He however urged participants to make use of available strategies such as the Corporate Development Strategy, Annual Policing Plans, which are meant to help them combat such crimes. He however said that having these strategies in place is not enough saying that their success lies in their execution by officers.
Mr Makgophe encouraged the officers to work together to fulfil their mandate saying they should focus on each other’s strengths and not weaknesses.
The Deputy Commissioner further urged police officers to treat their customers with courtesy and responds to reports promptly.
For their part, the participants cited slow disposal of cases by the courts processes as some of the challenges that they face.
