The Commissioner of Police Mr. Thebeyame Tsimako has handed donations totalling over P40, 000 to three fellow colleagues who fell victim to various misfortunes
The trio, two Police Officers and a Cleaner, were each given donations of P14, 478 raised through contributions by members and staff of the Botswana Police Service. Of the three officers; a Police Sergeant and a Cleaner had their houses blown off and property destroyed as hailstorm hit Mahalapye in December last year. In another incident, a Police Constable became a victim when mysterious fires destroyed a house and property belonging to his parents in Mochudi in 2008.
Speaking at a short ceremony held at Police Headquarters recently, Mr. Tsimako said the contribution by officers is a sign of compassion, which is in line with the national Vision, Vision 2016 pillar of a Compassionate, Just and Caring Nation.
In his vote of thanks, the Divisional Commander for South Central Division, Senior Assistant Commissioner Keabetswe Makgophe, said it was a remarkable gesture by members of the Police Service to help fellow officers who have fallen victim to situations they did not have control over. He said such a spirit of brotherhood should be encouraged and maintained.
