Botswana Police Service (BPS) has launched a new Corporate Development Strategy (CDS) to provide a fresher approach to crime fighting and prevention and with a refined mechanism for accountability.
Officiating at the ceremony marking the CDS launch recently at Boipuso Hall in Gaborone, the Minister of Defence, Justice and Security Honourable Dikgakgamatso Seretse said the Strategy that flows from NDP 10 elaborates the context within which accountability and planning by police officers should be undertaken to tackle issues of crime in a systematic manner.
The CDS (2009-2016) which is the third, after the first and second of 1997-2003 and 2003-2009 also tied to National Development Plans, emphasises optimum utilisation of resources to tackling challenges of transnational organized crime, road accidents and high incidence of crime.
With its goals of Public Safety and Protection linked to the vision pillar of a Safe and Secure Nation, the Strategy is expected to influence the standard, reliability, consistency and responsiveness of the Police Service to achieve the well-being and economic prosperity of the citizenry.
It further elaborates on NDP 10 strategies of partnership with communities, the private and non-government sectors on the detection, investigation and solution to crimes. It also emphasises the greater use of technology and modern methods in evidence gathering and criminal investigation as well as multi-disciplinary approaches to crime management.
As a result of a wider interaction with spectrum of the organizational workforce during the consultation process, the new CDS is likely to improve worker coordination, and iron out conflicting decisions that have the potential to undermine public confidence.
