Botswana Police Service (BPS) took position two in the government department category during the recent Consumer Fair exhibition in Gaborone. This was in recognition of its well organized stall that also displayed services excellently tying to the theme of Safe and Secure Spring Shopping Oasis that emphasised the Cluster Policing concept.
The BPS outclassed 28 other exhibitors that competed under the same category. It was an improvement for the BPS as it took position three last year. Among others, judging was based on the stall layout design, decorations and relevant educational materials.
The Police stall was strategically placed in the Ditshupo Hall and could not be easily avoided by visitors, more so that it shined with outstanding corporate colours of maroon and gold that seemingly fascinated the judges. Other categories included parastatals, financial institutions, gardening, traders, entertainment and many others.
The new Corporate Development Strategy (2009-2016) with new approaches to addressing the complexity and sophistication of crime was also the sales package for the BPS. Pull out banners, displaying new vision, mission and core values and messages on sexual offences, breaking into vehicles and road safety were added consumption materials.
Students, academicians, journalists and researchers frequently visited the police stall with many of them seeking information on police procedures, especially on how to join cluster committees or form new ones. Some of them however, complained that the concept of cluster policing was not adequately advertised in their respective areas and wished more to be done on its promotion. On how to join cluster committees, stall managers advised them to visit their nearest police stations to make necessary arrangement for joining existing committees or forming new ones.
The Consumer Fair was a one stop shop for consumers across the globe. The seven days exhibitions with the theme Your Spring Shopping Oasis was an opportunity by various services and production companies to disseminate, demonstrate products, exchange business ideas and create business networks between local and international companies.
Botswana Police was among more than 500 exhibitors selling services to visitors who thronged the Consumer Fair. At least 600 consumers from parts of Botswana and abroad visited the magnificent and colourful Fair.
