A Decade of Police Generosity to a Palapye Orphan
21/12/10

Police in Palapye are building a house for an orphan who has been under their care for more than ten years.

According to Palapye Station Commander, Superintendent Kenneth Masole, the police adopted the orphaned child, Onalenna Joseph, in 1999 at the age of five years from House of Hope, a charitable non-governmental organisation in the village. Mr Masole said that since then they have been providing her with basic necessities such as food and clothing.

He added that they also opened a savings account for Onalenna, in which they have been making monthly contributions. He said that this year they decided to build her a house after learning that she had a plot, which her mother left for her and her sister when she passed away.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony of the house on the Community Service Day in Palapye recently, the Councillor for Morupule, Mr Jordan Makhura commended members of the Botswana Police for their concerted efforts in helping the needy in society.

Mr Makhura said the fact that police have been caring for Onalenna for more than ten years is a clear indication that they are committed to improving the lives of the people that they live with in their communities.

He said that such commitment by Botswana Police should serve as an encouragement to other government departments and the private sector to follow suit.

The house is to be built with the help of some donors in the business community and is expected to be completed in a few months time.
