Traffic Branch Commanders
04/02/13
The Botswana Police Traffic Branch Commanders have been urged to empower their subordinates as the objectives of the Police Service cannot be achieved without the support of their juniors. Speaking at the Annual Traffic Commanders meeting in Palapye recently, the Commissioner of Police Mr Keabetswe Makgophe encouraged the commanders to entrust their subordinates with leadership roles, saying that the responsibility of a leader is to lead and to show the direction. He implored them to come up with workable solutions to address concerns raised by the public such as the length of time it takes to un-flag vehicles of owners who have paid fines. He also reminded the commanders to keep customers up to date on the progress of their cases. The Commissioner said even though statistics indicate that a 2.6 percent reduction in fatal crashes in the past, it does not guarantee police officers rest as this figure falls far below the agreed target. For his part the Director of Traffic, Senior Assistant Commissioner Katlholo Mosimanegape said their analysis indicates that most accidents are recorded on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. He therefore called for deployment of resources and operations to target these days with specific focus prone areas. The purpose of Annual Traffic Commanders meeting is to review the past performance and to map the way-forward with regard to the reduction of road accidents in Botswana.
