The Lekgwapheng resident in collaboration with the Business community has built an office that will be used as police post in the area. The office which is valued at over P400 000 has three office space, mini conference hall and an ablution block.
Officially opening the Police Post on Saturday (05/05/2012), the Commissioner of Police Mr Thebeyame Tsimako said the construction of Lekgwapheng Community Police Post was meant to bring services closer to members of the community. Mr Tsimako said Lekgwapheng residents used to travel eight kilometres to access police service, saying Police Post will help to reduce increased crime incidents in Molepolole and the surrounding areas. The Commissioner said Molepolole Police Station used to police the population of Molepolole village which is 67 598 including 12 000 of Lekgwapheng.
He said he was happy with the new cluster policing strategy that was adopted by the Botswana Police Service where members of the community are engaged in the fight against crime. He said that the formation of Lekgwapheng community policing cluster has helped to reduce cases of break-ins, assaults, rape and use insulting language. He indicated that between 2009 and 2011 cases of house breaking and theft were reduced from 29 to 13; robbery from 9 to 3; assaults from 102 to 57 and theft common from 96 to 43.
He thanked all the individuals and companies that contributed in their many different ways to the successful construction of Lekgwapheng police post.
In his vote of thanks, the Member of Parliament for Molepolole South Honourable Daniel Kwelagobe, commended Lekgwapheng community cluster and the business community for their commitment in building a good working relationship with the Botswana Police. He thanked them for employing all possible means to be able to come up with such structure even during the economic crisis.
