The Minister of Defence, Justice and Security, Mr Dikgakgamatso Seretse said the Safe and Secure Nation Pillar advocates for the eradication of all forms of crime.
Officially launching the Safe and Secure Nation Pillar held in Shoshong, recently, Mr Seretse said his Ministry has embarked on programmes to improve the capacity of law enforcement agencies including the Police service in dealing with disturbing offences such as murder, rape, suicides, stock theft and gender violence. The Minister said the introduction of National Legal Aid System will improve access to justice, saying the creation of a Safe and Secure Nation is aimed at ensuring that the nation remains safe and secure at all times. The Police service is also working around the clock to reduce fatalities in road accidents to ensure the territorial integrity of the nation and protect the sovereignty. He appealed to the communities to join hands with law enforcement agencies to curb crime.
The Minister said since crime is a mindset, the approach should not only look at sanctions meted out for offenders but should include education through workshops and seminars. He said, although the Ministry have resource constraints to respond time to reported crimes, they have however achieved more with little resources availed to them. The Minister mentioned the first Pillar which was launched in Molepolole in March this year as “Building a Prosperous, Productive and Innovative Nation. He urged the public to be mindful of global developments to call for eradication of all forms of crime behaviour that erodes the safety and security of the nation.
The Minister emphasised that Vision 2016 Pillars must be taken into consideration to have understanding and knowledge of national goals and collective responsibility and commitment towards the achievement of national development.
