Police in Gaborone have arrested eleven suspects after being found in possession of goods suspected to have been stolen outside Botswana. The suspects are four Batswana, four Zimbabweans, a Zambian, Indian and Bangladesh national aged between 30 and 65 years.
They were arrested at Broadhurst Industrial, Station Mall and Main Mall this week during the ongoing police special operation. The goods include 300 boxes of different cigarettes and over 200 boxes of various tablets including Anti Retroviral and family planning pills.
Police preliminary investigations revealed that some of the tablets are offered for sale to some local Pharmacies and members of the public thus creating market and illegal transportation of such goods into Botswana. The investigations also revealed that some of these goods are smuggled into Botswana and find their way into other neighbouring countries.
The police therefore appeal to members of the public to report suspicious people who go about selling goods suspected to be stolen.
