DESCRIPTION

 

Firearm registration enables the acquisition of a registration certificate.  A firearm licence authorizes the possession of an arm and ammunition in accordance with the Arms and Ammunitions Act Cap 24:01.  The service includes:

 

Application for Permit to Acquire a Firearm

Application for Registration Certificate

Application for Arm Licence

Application for Temporary Permit to Possess Arms and Ammunition (Residents)

Application for Temporary Import Permit for Arms and Ammunition (Non Residents)

Application for Permit to Import Ammunition (Residents)

Application for Export Permit

Application for Arms and Ammunition Dealer’s Licence or its Renewal

How to apply for a Permit to Acquire a Firearm?

You fill form No. 1 to:

Enter a raffle;

Transfer – for inheritance purposes or purchase;

Surrender.

 

Raffle

 

Complete an application form (Form No.1) at the nearest Police Station:

  1. If you have no firearm (domestic) you may apply for three permits. i.e 1 shotgun; 2 rifles of different calibers
  2. If you have a shotgun, you may complete two (2) forms for rifles of different calibers
  3. If you have a shotgun and a rifle, you may complete a form for a different rifle caliber
  4. If you have two (2) rifles then you may complete a form for a shotgun.
  5. Attend an interview with the Licensing Officer (Station Commander);
  6. Applicant to be 18 years of age or above;
  7. No previous convictions
  8. Attach a copy of Identity Card (Omang) or Passport on each application form;
  9. Raffle winners should:

a.    Submit Finger Prints on Form BP 52 for vetting

 

Transfer – (Inheritance or Purchase)

 

1.    Complete an application form (Form No.1) at the nearest Police Station;

2.    Attend an interview with the Licensing Officer (Station Commander);

3.    Applicant to be 18 years of age or above;

4.    Attach a copy of Identity Card (Omang) or Passport;

5.    Submit Finger Prints on Form BP 52 for vetting for those without a firearm.

6.    Firearm (s) to be brought to the Station Commander for verification of the type, caliber and serial number.

 

Surrender of Firearm

 

1.    Complete an application form (Form No.1) at the nearest Police Station;

2.    Firearm (s) to be brought to the Station Commander for verification of the type, caliber and serial number.

3.    Acquisition Permit is then issued to only those without previous convictions.

1.    Produce an Arm Certificate.

2.    Complete an application form (Form No.17) at the nearest Police Station;

3.    Produce purchased firearm to the Station Commander for verification of the type, caliber and serial number.

4.    Acquire an Arm License (filled Form No.18 - valid for 5 years) from the Station Commander.

How to apply for a Temporary Permit to Possess Arms or Ammunition (Residents)?

 

1.    Produce an Arm Certificate;

2.    Applicant is required to be 18 years of age or above.

3.    Complete an application form (Form No.5) at the nearest Police Station;

4.    Produce purchased firearm to the Station Commander for verification of the type, caliber and serial number.

5.    Where Ammunition is involved, its number to be stated and shown to the Station Commander.

6.    Acquire a Temporary Permit (Completed Form No.7 - valid from one day to 12 months) from the Station Commander;

How to apply for a Temporary Import Permit for Arms or Ammunition (Non Residents)?

 

1.    Complete an application form (Form No.6) at the nearest Police Station;

2.    Submit copy of Registration Certificate for verification of the type, caliber and serial number.

3.    Applicant is required to be 18 years of age or above

4.    Attach copy of Passport to the application;

5.    Where Ammunition is involved, state its number;

6.    Acquire a Temporary Permit (Filled Form No.8 - valid 30 calendar days) from date of entry from the Station Commander.

How to apply for a Permit to Import Ammunition (Residents)?

 

1.    Complete an application form (Form No.2) at the nearest Police Station;

2.    Submit Registration Certificate for verification of the type, caliber and serial number to the Station Commander.

How to apply for an Export Permit?

 

1.    Complete an application form (Form No.9) at the nearest Police Station;

2.    Produce purchased firearm to the Station Commander for verification of the type, caliber and serial number.

3.    Submit Registration Certificate for verification of the type, caliber and serial number;

4.    Acquire Permit (Completed Form No.10), which is valid for six (6) months.

How to apply for Arms and Ammunition Dealer’s Licence or its Renewal?

 

1.    A strong room is required;

2.    Complete an application form (Form No.13) at a Police Station in your business location;

3.    Submit Finger Prints for vetting in case of a new applicant;

4.    Attach Station Commander’s Inspection Report;

5.    Acquire Permit (Filled Form No.14 - valid for 3 years) upon Minister’s approval
