3 February 2010
At least 23 suspects were arrested by the police for various offences in special operations that were conducted in and around Gaborone last week. The suspects were arrested for among others possession of suspected stolen property, house break-ins and possession of forged cheques.
During the operations the police managed to recover five laptops, clothing, decoders, cellphone and other household goods. Some of the property seized was linked to some unsolved cases reported at some police stations in Gaborone.
In one of the incidents four men aged between 24 and 31 years were found in possession of two laptops which they failed to account for. The quartet, a South African and three Batswana were also linked to cases of forged cheques, theft common and unlawful use of motor vehicles. In another incident, a 47-year old woman was arrested at Maruapula location in Gaborone for possession of suspected stolen laptop.
A 38 year old Zimbabwean man was arrested after he was found in possession of suspected forged immigration travelling documents. The man is suspect to have been assisting non-citizens to extend their stay in Botswana.
Police clean up campaigns are conducted countrywide especially in crime prone areas such as Gaborone and Francistown and have proved to be a success.
