Five suspects were arrested in five separate incidents of rape in which children below the age of 16 years were victims. The incidents occurred during the week under review at Kanye, Seherelela, Moshupa and Palaye.
In one of the incident that was reported at Sejelo Police Station, a 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion that he sexually abused a four-year-old girl on Thursday in Kanye. It is believed that the incident occurred when the mother of the child was away.
Jwaneng police are also investigating an incident in which a ten-year-old boy was raped by a 19-year-old man at Seherelela Village. The victim and the suspect were staying together when the incident occurred.
Police investigations indicate that in most instances the perpetrators were relatives, guardians or neigbours of the victims. Some of the incidents were reported late because the suspects threatened victims or that parents victims were made aware of the abuse after a long time.
