Botswana Police is concerned about bus operators who employ non-citizen as drivers, conductors and inspectors without work permits.
The concern comes after the police arrested and charged a number of foreigners for working in Botswana without work permits. Since the beginning of the year, Dibete Police charged a total of 10 foreigner’s bus drivers four conductors and one bus inspector for working in Botswana without work permit. The foreigners were arrested in buses operating between Botswana and Zimbabwe along the A1 road. Foreigners were mainly Zimbabwean nationals hired by local bus operators. The situation was even worse during the festive season when the transport industry was at the peak.
The Botswana Police would like to remind transport operators to desist from employing no-citizen without following the normal procedures. The transport operators are further reminded that it is an offence punishable by law to employ non-citizens as drivers, conductors and inspectors without work permits.
