In order to address the escalating theft of stock in the country, the Stock Theft Act Cap 09:01 of the laws of Botswana has a number of provisions that are in placve to control the menace. Some of the important issues covered in the Act include requirement with regard to driving or conveying stock or produce
1. No personal shall, without lawful authority, drive, convey or transport any stock or produce unless he is the owner or he has in his possessions a removal certificate issued to him by the owner.
It shall be the duty of any person who comes across any other person driving animals and it is suspected that he is contravening such a report to demand a fulfillment of the above on confronting any person driving the animals.
2. No person shall cause or permit any stock or produce of which he is the owner to be driven, conveyed or transported by any other person without furnishing that person with a removal certificate which he is required to have. If any person is required to produce such a certificate by a police officer, he should produce it for inspection.
3. No person who is employed by an owner shall remove any stock from any land occupied by such owner without a removal certificate.
