Crime prevention has been inherent in the culture of Batswana who are generally renowned for peace loving. As a concept, the strategy was institutionalised around 1984 in Botswana with theformation of crime prevention committees. The role of the office of crime prevention is to develop and supports effective community policing initiatives to prevent crime. These initiatives are meant to deal with escalating occurrences of crime in the country such as breakings and entry and the use of illegal handguns.
