The therapeutic Sbrana Psychiatric Hospital (SPH), formely known as Lobatse Mental Hospital (LMH) which lies adjacent to the country's oldest high court is not only the pride of Lobatse residents, but of the whole country.
The new hospital named after the first psychiatrist from Italy, Dr. Giuseppe Sbrana is the country's only mental hospital. Mental health services started in Botswana when LMH was opened in 1938, initially as an observation centre for mentaly ill prisoners and later as an observation wing for mentally ill patients from Athlone Hospital.
