LIMID

Livestock Management and Infrastructure Development (LIMID) Programme

 

LIMID is a support programme and comprises two components:

 

·         resource-poor (small stock and Tswana chickens) and

·         infrastructure development (borehole drilling, borehole equipping, water reticulation, borehole purchase, poultry abattoirs, fodder processors, fodder barns, livestock water development for small herd owners in communal areas, kraals, crushes and loading ramps).

 

Objectives:

  • Promote food security through improved productivity of livestock (cattle, small stock and Tswana chickens);
  • Improve livestock management;
  • Improve range resource utilization and conservation;
  • Eradicate destitution by providing resources to the poor and
  • Provide infrastructure for safe and hygienic processing of poultry products.

Service description:

LIMID assists farmers with different packages to improve their living standards and livestock husbandry practices.

 

How do I obtain the service?

Contact the nearest Animal Production/Veterinary office.

 

How do I apply for the service?

Forms are available at the nearest Department of Animal Production/Veterinary Services offices and technical advice will be given on how to complete the forms.The forms are also available online at the bottom of this page. 

 

Fees for the service

 

No application fee is required when completing the forms. 

 

Requirements for all application

 

·       Applicants must be Botswana citizens only and

  • Should be 18 years and above, in possession of a certified copy of a valid identity document (Omang).

Packages;  

 

Animal husbandry and fodder support

 

Synopsis

Under this package, applicants are assisted to buy the following entities; fodder processors, build fodder barns, construct kraals, crushes and loading ramps. Only one entity can be applied for at a time. This support is available to farmers in communal areas only. 

 

Requirements

Applicants should own livestock either cattle or smallstock (sheep and goats).

Attach the following documents to application form (LIMID 1):

  • Certified copy of cattle brand certificate, 
  • Certified copy of valid Identity document (Omang)
  • Quotations for the items required.
  • Those who apply as syndicates should provide certified copies of constitutions. 
  • A group (2-4 members) should provide a completed partnership agreement form.

 

Water development

 

Synopsis

Applicants are assisted to drill boreholes, equip boreholes, reticulate water and purchase borehole/wells. Only one package can be applied for. 

 

Requirements

Applicants should own livestock either cattle or smallstock;

Attach the following documents to application form (LIMID 2).

  • Certified copy of cattle brand certificate;  
  • Certified copy of valid Identity Document (Omang);
  • Certified copy of LandBoard certificate;
  • Quotations for the items required;
  • Those who apply as syndicates should provide certified copies of constitutions; 
  • Groups (2-4 members) should provided a completed partnership agreement form.

 

Agreement for borehole use

 

LIMID also provides for partnership and use of boreholes by farmers who do not own boreholes. Application form (LIMID 3).

 

Smallstock

 

Synopsis

This package is meant to assists only resource-poor farmers to purchase smallstock and veterinary requisites. 

 

Requirements

Applicants should own zero (0) to four (4) cattle or zero (0) to 20 goats/sheep. Applicants should earn up to P120 per month without dependants or up to P150 with dependants.

 

The following documents should be attached to the application form (LIMID 4);

  • Certified copy of valid Identity document (Omang)
  • Proof of water source.
  • Quotations for the items required i.e., smallstock and veterinary requisites.

 Tswana chickens

 

Synopsis

This package is meant to assists only resource-poor farmers to purchase Tswana chickens, feeds, veterinary requisites and construct Tswana chicken house.  

 

Requirements

Applicants should own zero (0) to four (4) cattle or zero (0) to 20 goats/sheep. Applicants should earn up to P120 per month without dependants or up to P150 with dependants.

 

The following documents should be attached to the application form (LIMID 5);

  • Certified copy of valid Identity document (Omang)
  • LandBoard certificate for residential plot or any place where the chicken house will be built.
  • Quotations for the items required which include Tswana chickens, building materials, veterinary requisites and feeds.

Poultry abattoirs

 

Synopsis

This package assists cooperatives to setup poultry abattoirs. The aim is to provide small-scale poultry farmers with slaughtering facilities to enhance wholesomeness of chicken meat to enable them to compete in the market.  

Requirements

Producers shall form cooperatives consisting of a minimum of 15 members. The cooperative should slaughter a minimum of 100 000 birds per month to make the venture profitable.

 

Attach the following documents to a application form (LIMID 6):

  • Certified copy of valid Identity documents (Omang) for applicants;
  • Certified copy of LandBoard certificate for the plot;
  • Certified copy of constitution for the cooperative;
  • Quotations for the items required;
  • Certified copy of business plan.

Livestock Water Development for Small Herd Owners in Communal Areas

 

Synopsis

Applicants are assisted with borehole equipping and water reticulation. This is a special package which assists farmers to provide livestock with water. The syndicate should comprise a minimum of 15 members. There is no contribution required.  

 

Requirements

Each member in the group should own 1 to 40 cattle.

 

Attach the following documents to a application form (LIMD 7);

·         Certified copy of cattle brand certificate;

·         Certified copy of valid Identity Document (Omang);

·         Certified copy of LandBoard certificate/lease agreement;

·         Quotations for the items required;

·         Syndicates should provide a certified copy of constitution.
