The Department of Veterinary Services notifies the Farming Community that to enable the monitoring of cattle to ensure traceability for disease control purposes to access external Markets ,certain requirement have to be met and they fall into catergories:

1. Registration of Holdings
2. Owner and Keeper Registration.

Currently Feedlots and Fenced Farms are the ones being registerd and Communal areas will follow at a  date to be specified.

Holdings Registration

These fall into three catergories i.e.

a) Feedlots

b) Fenced Farms

c) Communal areas

The application form is the same for the three,but it should be clearly indicated on the form what Holding is being applied for.

Feedlot requirements

• The owner of a feedlot should have evidence of ownership or authority to use and comply with the land use type.
• The Feedlot should be geo referenced
• The feedlot should be fully fenced with stock proof fence
•  Should have a minimum of 6 pens which are properly identified/labeled.
• -Arrival/receiving pens
• -Out going pens
• -Disinfectable calving pens
• -Observation/isolation pens
• -Production pens (2)
• The feedlot should  have good drainage
• There should be waste dump
• The feedlot should have animal handling structures( 3x crushes and loading ramps)
• The feedlot should have adequate feeding troughs and watering troughs with a source of water
• The feedlot should have feed storage facilities
• There should be a toilet
• The feedlot should maintain a stocking rate of 12-15 Sqm /animal

Fenced farm requirements

 Owner and Keeper Registration

Registration of Owners and Keepers will be announced at a specified date,following completion of Holdings registration.
