Service Description:

Department of Agricultural Research; Seed Multiplication Unit is an official seed certifying agency in Botswana. Certification is limited to seed of officially recognized varieties, grown and inspected as to protect the varietal identity and genetic purity. The services provided include; seed certification and seed distribution.

Seed Certification:  Field Inspections and seed sampling for contracted seed growers. (Contracted Seed growers are selected through tendering procedures)

Seed Testing: (The tests conducted are Moisture determination, Purity analysis and Germination).

How do I sample?

From the seed-lot, draw the primary sample, and then form a composite sample. Label your sample and submit to the Botswana National Seed Laboratory in Sebele.

Do I pay for the service?

Both Field Inspections and Testing are  free

Seed Sales and Distribution

Seed is sold to the public, cooperatives, Botswana Agricultural Marketing Board and through Government programmes such as ISPAAD.
