1.       SERVICE DESCRIPTION

Agricultural groups which aspire to transform in to legally recognized entities may register as Agricultural Management Associations (AMAs). They are registered under Agricultural Management Associations Act number 18 0f 1986, chapter 35:08 , the purpose of which is to provide for the constitution, registration and control of agricultural management associations as well as provide for the rights, privileges, obligations and liabilities of members and related incidental matters.

2.     HOW TO OBTAIN SERVICE

To obtain the service, the aspiring group must go to the nearest Agribusiness Promotion office for guidance and acquisition of model AMA constitution that guides them on   how to develop their specific constitution.

3.     HOW TO APPLY FOR THE SERVICE

Associated farmers who wish to register as an AMA;

§         Should be five or more individuals.

§         Should all be citizens of Botswana.

§         Should all want to be associated for the purpose of undertaking a collective agricultural venture.

§         These individuals should have prepared a constitution of the proposed association (3 copies).

§         Should complete Agricultural Management Associations application forms.

§         Should complete   three (3) copies of the membership forms   

§         Every  application will be published in the gazette and one news paper circulating in the area (Daily News)

§         Notice of the application will take 30 days whereby any objection to the registration could be made to the commissioner of Agricultural management Associations.

After the elapse of the 30days if there has not been an objection the Commissioner of Agricultural Management Association can therefore register the Association.

Registration certificate will then be forwarded to the respective AMA.

Currently the Division of Agricultural Cooperatives under the Department Of Agricultural Business Promotion is responsible for the registration of Agricultural Management associations.
