DESIGNATION OF OIE REFERENCE LABORATORY FOR CONTAGIOUS BOVINE PLEUROPNEUMONIA (CATTLE LUNG DISEASE)

The Director of Veterinary Services informs the general public that Botswana National Veterinary Laboratory (BNVL) under the Department of Veterinary Services in the Ministry of Agriculture, has been designated a Reference Laboratory for Contagious bovine pleuro-pneumonia (CBPP), commonly known as cattle lung disease, with Dr. Chandapiwa Marobela-Raborokgwe as the designated expert, by The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) during its annual general session held in Paris – France from 23 to 25 May 2012. This international recognition is based on the capabilities and competencies of BNVL.  

 

 

As an OIE reference laboratory, BNVL will:  

a) Pursue all scientific and technical problems relating to CBPP and assist  member countries  on surveillance, diagnosis and control of the disease.

 

b) Provide scientific and technical training for personnel from member states.

 

c) Coordinate scientific and technical studies in collaboration with other laboratories or organizations.

 

BNVL joins an OIE global network of 225 reference laboratories with 166 experts in 37 countries.  BNVL is the fifth CBPP reference laboratory in the world.
