This communication is a follow up of our Press Release issued on 30th April 2011 on the outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) at Matsiloje Extension Area in Veterinary Disease Control zone 6.
The general public is informed that the veterinary movement protocol has been revised as follows:
- Ngamiland, Chobe and Nata/Gweta (3b) are not affected by the current country wide movement ban of all cloven-hoofed animals and their fresh products. Instead, the movement protocols for these areas that existed before the Matsiloje FMD outbreak prevail.
- For the rest of the country, the following products are not allowed to move between veterinary disease control zones: fresh meat, raw/ unpasteurized milk, raw hides and skins, grass/straw for use as livestock feed, semen and untreated game trophies.
- Movement of cloven hoofed animals within and between veterinary disease control zones is still prohibited.
Surveillance continues to establish the extent of the outbreak and our movement protocol will be revised accordingly.
Thank you for your continued support.
