The Director of Veterinary Services wishes to inform the general public and the farming community that there is a re-emergence of Foot and Mouth Disease in Kareng extension area, Ngamiland, a FMD vaccination zone.
Further investigations are on-going to establish the extent of the outbreak.Consequently, standard control measures have been put in place; these include emergency vaccination, movement restrictions, disease surveillance,biosecurity and public education. Therefore movement of cloven hoofedanimals out of, within and into Kareng, Semboyo, Makakung, Bodibeng and Sehitwa extension areas has been suspended with immediate effect, until further notice.
Farmers are advised to be vigilant and report any suspicious cases to the nearest veterinary official. Farmers are also urged to cooperate with surveillance and vaccination teams.
