           Bolus Insertion Campaign starts

The Ministry of Agriculture informs livestock producers that it will be starting a robust national Bolus Insertion campaign on January 10, 2011. The campaign is meant to make up for the delay caused by the break down of the old version machines.

The new and modified bolus insertion machines with amongst others, more information storage capacity for the Livestock Identification and Trace back System (LITS), will now be used.

In order to penetrate the lucrative European Union market it is a requirement to be able to trace beef back to the individual animal the meat came from.

LITS also makes it easier to locate lost or stolen cattle.

Meanwhile, producers are reminded to be ready with necessary documents such as brand certificate, and a copy of Omang or Omang Card.

They are also encouraged to report to their respective crushes, and for those using private crushes such should be in good condition.

Each district is expected to have completed the bolus insertion in 30 days.
